How to use the hashtag generator

  1. Type the main subject of your post, such as coffee, yoga or street food.
  2. Choose the niche that best fits your account. The tool blends tags from that niche with tags built from your keyword.
  3. Pick your platform. The slider is set to a sensible number for it, which you can change.
  4. Press Generate, then Copy all and paste into your caption or first comment.

How many hashtags should you use in 2026?

Instagram used to allow 30 hashtags per post, but from December 2025 it began limiting posts and Reels to 5 hashtags. That makes choosing the right five far more important than adding many. If your account still accepts more, use the slider, but keep every tag relevant. TikTok captions work well with 3–5 relevant hashtags. YouTube shows the first three hashtags above your title and ignores all hashtags on a video if you use more than 60, so keep it focused.

The balanced hashtag strategy

Using only giant hashtags like #love or #instagood puts your post in a feed that refreshes every second, so it disappears quickly. Using only tiny tags limits your reach. A good set mixes three sizes:

  • Broad tags (millions of posts) for a short burst of discovery. With a 5-tag limit, use one at most.
  • Medium tags (tens of thousands to a few million) where your post can stay visible for hours.
  • Niche and keyword tags that describe exactly what's in the post. These bring the most interested viewers and help search understand your content.

This generator follows that structure: it takes a few broad tags, more medium niche tags and several keyword variations.

Hashtag mistakes to avoid

  • Irrelevant tags. Tagging a food post with #fashion annoys viewers and can reduce how often your post is shown.
  • Copying the identical set on every post. Rotate tags so each post matches its content. Use the Shuffle button for variety.
  • Banned or spammy tags. Some tags get restricted when they attract spam. If a tag's page shows "recent posts are hidden", drop it.
  • Forgetting your own brand tag. Create one unique tag (like #YourBrandStories) and use it everywhere so fans can find all your posts.

Frequently asked questions

Do hashtags still work on Instagram?

Yes, but mainly to tell Instagram what your post is about. Relevant hashtags help your post appear in hashtag pages and search; content quality and engagement matter more for reach.

Should I put hashtags in the caption or the first comment?

Both work. Putting them in the caption is the most reliable because they are attached to the post the moment it goes live.

How many hashtags should I use on TikTok?

Three to five relevant hashtags is a good rule. Mix one or two broad tags with specific ones that describe your video.

Are the hashtag post counts live?

No. The tool groups hashtags into broad, medium and niche sets from our curated list; it does not query Instagram or TikTok, so check a tag in the app if you need its current size.
