Our guides exist to help you solve a specific problem — choosing a mortgage term, paying off a card, sizing an image, pricing your work. We publish an article only when we believe it explains the answer more clearly or more practically than what you'd otherwise find.
How our guides are made
- We start from a real question people search for, and the follow-up questions they ask.
- We research current facts from primary and official sources wherever possible — for example tax authorities such as the IRS and HMRC, regulators, and platforms' own help centres — and name the source in the text when a figure depends on it.
- We calculate every example. Numbers in our guides are computed with the same formulas our calculators use, not estimated, so you can reproduce them with the linked tool.
- We draft with the help of AI writing tools under a written editorial standard, then check each guide against a quality checklist: does it answer the question, is every fact current, is it honest about limits, and is there anything that doesn't help the reader?
- Automated checks catch broken links, repeated or copied passages and missing information before anything is published.
Our standards
- Accuracy first. Where rules change by year or country, we say which year and country an example applies to.
- No invented claims. We don't publish made-up statistics, testimonials or "we tested" claims.
- Ranges, not promises. Earnings, returns and rates vary, and we say so.
- Independence. Advertising keeps the site free, but advertisers have no say over what we write, and ads never change a calculator's result.
- Not personal advice. Money, tax and legal guides are general information. For decisions about your own situation, check with an official source or a qualified professional.
Keeping guides up to date
We regularly review older guides for time-sensitive facts such as tax thresholds, platform limits and policy changes. When we correct or update a guide, the date at the top of the article changes to show when it was last updated.
